Ruth Detert, 94
Ruth J. Detert died at age 94 on Friday, July 11, 2014, and is to be buried at the Fairview Memorial Park, Fairmont, Minnesota. She lived in Sherburn MN before moving to Frederick, Maryland.
Ruth Jessie Hixon was born March 13, 1920, to Jesse and Bertha (Dushinske) Hixon on a farm near Ormsby, MN in Galena Township. She was confirmed April 22, 1934, at the Mission Covenant Church in Triumph, MN. She graduated from Jackson High School. In 1941 she graduated from Mankato State Teachers College with a degree in elementary teaching. She taught 2nd grade for many years in the area including a country school in Martin County, Okabena, Sherburn and Dunnell.
In 1943 she moved to Sherburn, MN. She was installed in the Manyaska Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star January 7, 1947 and was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. On January 31, 1954, she married Alfred W. Detert at the Methodist Church in Sherburn. After their marriage they farmed in Lake Fremont Township MN and were members of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Dunnell, MN. She was active in the Garden Club and Ladies Aid.
In 1968 they retired from farming and moved to Sherburn. They became members of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sherburn and were active in the Senior Group and the Lutheran Brotherhood. She was also an active member of the Ladies Aid. In 2002 she moved to Frederick, Maryland to be near her daughter, Karen and son-in-law Raymond Gebhart.
She is survived by her daughter Karen (Detert) Gebhart and son-in-law Raymond Gebhart of Frederick, Maryland; step-grandsons Raymond Gebhart Jr. of Elizabethtown, PA, Keith Gebhart and wife Brienne Gebhart of Hanover, PA, and Andrew Gebhart of Walnut Creek, CA; sister-in-law Hilda (Detert) Poppe of Sherburn; and many nieces and nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; husband Alfred W. Detert; sister Marion (Hixon) Slocum; brother Paul Hixon; and other relatives.

Matteo is Born
Here's Carlo and DeLuca welcoming Matteo, born on April 30, 2013 on Tiber Island in Rome.

He weighed 7.6 pounds.
Mara and Matteo returned home yesterday and are doing great.
We'll be returning home to the US permanently in June , living in
Charlotte, North Carolina. We hope to see many of you again soon!

Cemetary Flowers and Markers
On the way back from Cleveland May 28 we stopped at the Troy Grove Cemetery and in Mendota at the monument place. Wildflowers were in bloom.
The field had been planted so monument compary could not come in from the North. As soon as the elevator company cuts the hay around the perimeter of the bean field they will set the monument.
